As a part of the medical charity program, Yeson Voice Center has invited three children from Russia and Moldova. They have had laryngeal papilloma for long and this time through this event they were granted of this chance to receive the treatment at Yeson Voice Center. Since 2011, YVC has been participating in the Medical Charity Program sponsored by Ministry of Health and Welfare and managed by KHIDI twice a year. Three children who were invited by YVC have been suffering from a vocal disease named laryngeal papilloma for a long time. Liliya Timoshenko, 3-year old girl from Russia was diagnosed with laryngeal papilloma when she was only 6 months old. She had to receive the surgery every three months to remove laryngeal papilloma. However due to its frequent recurrence and her narrowed vocal folds due to scar formation, she almost lost her voice and had trouble breathing and eating something for survival. Polina Gergert, a 4-year old girl from Russia, also was diagnosed with laryngeal papilloma when she was one year old and had to receive the surgery every 2~3 months but still it was hard for her to make a sound and it caused difficulty in breathing. Irina Cheles from Moldova is a 5-year old girl and was diagnosed with laryngeal papilloma when she was two years old. Due to the poor hospital facility in Moldova, they moved out to Russia to get better treatment though she didn’t get well despite the fact she received surgeries for 5 times in a year. Surgery complications made her condition even worse than before that she couldn’t breathe well by herself. These three little children came to Yeson and YVC performed surgeries for them from September 25th to 27th. Especially Liliya and Irina, their cases were very difficult so they were required to have the 2nd surgery and could confirm their result after a week. On the last 2nd of October, they spent their time at Korea’s traditional palace called ‘Changdeok Palace’ and left on the 7th. Polina’s mom, Polina Gergert, said, “I highly appreciate Yeson Voice Center for this opportunity to receive the surgery at no cost at Yeson Voice Center where there’s cutting-edge systems and medical treatment available. My hope revived in you and I believe I can hear my child’s voice again.” To check their progress takes about 6 months~1 year. If follow-up is necessary later on, they will visit Korea again.
