SBS KPOP STAR Audition is held in collaboration with the Big Three: SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, and JYP Entertainment, looking for the next big KPOP Star. Recently, SBS KPOP Star has been receiving huge attention from people in Korea and overseas as well. It is great news to hear the TOP 10 is receiving Voice Rehabilitation Program at Yeson Voice Center to prepare for their LIVE auditions. According to the result of the examinations of TOP 10, Michelle Lee and Jae Hyung Park were diagnosed as vocal nodule. Most of singers are to over use their voice because of busy performance schedules and long time of singing. Thus, a lot of them have vocal disease such as vocal nodule. The symptoms of vocal nodule can be hoarseness, fatigue of voice, and throat pain. Therefore, it is important to diagnose one’s voice condition and learn proper phonation in order to sing and speak well. Vocal nodule patients have feeling of dry throat and are able to hard to talk, and it is very risky for professional singers. Michelle Lee had been scolded by the judges because she’s been careless with her voice, the judges even told her to not to talk. It is important to receive the voice therapy which focuses on eliminating the abuse of the voice and teaches proper voice use. Nodules are often removed through voice therapy itself without surgical procedure. However, when nodules are not removed through voice therapy, surgical treatment can be necessary. Vocal nodule can be treated by Microlaryngeal Surgery, which is observed by laryngeal mirrors (tools with small mirrors attached which are used to see into the larynx through the mouth). It won’t affect any other area besides the nodule part, and it is also a safe procedure for professional voice users. However, patients should not be using their voice for 7 days after the operation and try to limit using a voice for 2 weeks. It is recommended to not whisper or speak loudly and avoid throat clearing. Additionally, Dr. Hyung Tae Kim commented that the most important thing is to rest the voice to prevent any vocal diseases. Furthermore, smoking, alcohol drinking, and caffeinated drinks will make the vocal cords dry, so it is beneficial to drink lots of water (at least 2 liters per day) to make vocal cords to keep moisturized all the time.
